UPDATE: Tifton’s Best Running is set to kick off its inaugural Chase the Turkey 5K this November 15, 2025, at 7:30 a.m. The excitement is building as the local footwear store invites the community to race through the heart of Tifton in a unique Thanksgiving celebration.
This much-anticipated event promises to unite residents in a festive atmosphere, diverging from traditional Thanksgiving gatherings. Participants will start at City Hall, winding through Historic Tifton and its beloved neighborhoods, with the chance to chase fellow runners donning turkey-themed attire.
Owner Don Boraowski has been advocating for this event for over two years, aiming to enhance Tifton’s community spirit. The run is strategically scheduled just before Thanksgiving, allowing him to balance the activities of both his stores in Tifton and Statesboro, where a similar event has thrived for over a decade.
Boraowski collaborated with city officials to create a route that highlights the essence of Tifton, ensuring runners experience its vibrant community character. To elevate the community involvement, Tifton’s Best Running will donate 40 pairs of Brooks running shoes to the nonprofit Called to Care.
Awards will be presented to top male and female finishers in various age categories, including separate recognitions for those over and under 40 years old, as well as the top three in each five-year age group from ten and under to over 60.
Post-race, participants are encouraged to explore downtown Tifton, visiting local shops along Main Street or enjoying the Fall Farmer’s Market, which will be setting up as the race concludes. Boraowski envisions the Chase the Turkey 5K as a cornerstone of Tifton’s annual fall festivities, fostering a spirit of togetherness.
