The Los Angeles Kings have announced that forward Warren Foegele will be activated off injured reserve on Sunday, following a near two-week absence due to an upper-body injury. Team reporter Zach Dooley confirmed that Foegele is “feeling really good” as he prepares to rejoin the roster.

Foegele’s last game was on October 26, 2023, during a road victory against the Chicago Blackhawks. The 29-year-old winger had been contributing as a solid third-line left wing alongside teammates Phillip Danault and Trevor Moore, but had struggled offensively, recording only one point in ten games this season. This is a stark contrast to his previous performance, where he achieved career highs in goals with 24 and points with 46 during the 2022-23 season.

With an open spot on their active roster, the Kings do not face immediate pressure to adjust their lineup; however, Foegele is expected to return on the fourth line alongside Corey Perry and Alex Turcotte. As a result, undrafted veteran forward Jeff Malott may find himself as a healthy scratch. Malott has had limited impact this season, with just two points in thirteen games and averaging under eight minutes of ice time per game.

Foegele’s presence could enhance the Kings’ penalty-killing unit, an area where he has historically excelled. Last season, he ranked fourth among Kings forwards in short-handed ice time per game, helping the team achieve a commendable No. 8 finish in the league’s overall penalty kill success rate. This capability could be crucial as the Kings aim to improve their standings in the competitive Pacific Division.

As the Kings strive to climb the ranks, Foegele’s return is a positive development for the team, bolstering their depth and reinforcing their efforts to secure victories in the ongoing season. With the right adjustments, Foegele’s experience and skills could prove invaluable in the Kings’ quest for success.
