Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr emphasized the need for his team to adapt and find ways to win without their star point guard, Stephen Curry, who is sidelined due to illness. Curry, who last played in a victory against the Phoenix Suns on October 31, 2025, is not expected to participate in the upcoming NBA Cup opener against the Denver Nuggets on November 2, 2025. Kerr confirmed that Curry’s condition has worsened since the last game, leading to his exclusion from the roster.
“He’s unlikely to play tomorrow in Denver,” Kerr stated during an interview with 95.7 The Game. “He’s still pretty sick. But these things happen during the season, whether it’s an injury or an illness… You have to rely on your fundamentals and your decision-making.”
In the absence of Curry, the Warriors will look to build on their experiences from previous games. Kerr recalled that last season, the team managed a record of 7-5 without Curry, showcasing the importance of adaptability. “You have to be able to find ways to win without your best players,” he added.
The Warriors recently faced a setback against the Sacramento Kings, losing 121-116. During this match, the team also missed the contributions of Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, who are dealing with injuries. Kerr noted that the performance of younger players such as Will Richard, Moses Moody, and Jonathan Kuminga provided a glimpse of hope during that loss.
As the team prepares for their next challenge, Kerr acknowledged the necessity for a collective effort. “Last night was a great lesson for our young guys. They gave themselves every chance to win because they played hard, they shared the ball, they competed. But we got to be more solid.”
Looking ahead to the game against the Nuggets, the status of Butler remains uncertain as he is listed as questionable, while Green is probable to return. According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, “Steph Curry will not play tomorrow against the Nuggets in Denver. Remains out with an illness. Symptoms worsened yesterday. Jimmy Butler is questionable to return. Draymond Green is probable.”
The Warriors will have to rely on their depth and teamwork to overcome the challenges posed by the absence of their star players.
