UPDATE: Lockport junior Natalie Bochantin has been recognized with the prestigious Porter Pride award, highlighting her outstanding leadership and teamwork during the volleyball season. This announcement comes just after an exhilarating victory against Joliet West in the Class 4A Joliet West Sectional championship.
The Porters triumphed with a score of 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 in a match held on November 6, 2025, securing their place in the upcoming Supersectional against Oak Park-River Forest at 7 p.m. Monday.
Bochantin, a 5-foot-7 setter, expressed her gratitude: “It made me feel just really appreciated. This season my focus was on my positivity and giving my teammates help.” Her commitment to fostering a supportive atmosphere has clearly resonated with her teammates, who voted for her award.
In the sectional final, Bochantin showcased her skills with 29 assists and nine digs, contributing significantly to Lockport’s success. Senior teammate Bridget Ferriter also shone brightly, tallying 19 kills, including a stellar performance on her 18th birthday.
“It was really exciting,” Ferriter stated. “After we lost the first game, we had to step it up. I think we really did.”
Lockport head coach Nick Mraz praised Bochantin’s all-around performance: “Porter Pride means you pretty much do everything the right way. For us, she’s the energy.” With a season total of 699 assists, 216 digs, and 63 aces, Bochantin’s impact extends beyond statistics.
Teammate Hutsyn Timosciek also made significant contributions, adding 11 kills in the match, while Olivia Priest and Malley Green supported the effort with seven kills and 12 assists, respectively.
Bochantin, who initially operated as a solo setter, adapted to a dual-setting system with Green’s return from injury. “It was a lot of responsibility, but my teammates made it easier,” she reflected. The sense of camaraderie and teamwork is palpable, as Bochantin emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere, even incorporating “funny shirt day” into their practice routine.
As the Porters gear up for their crucial match against Oak Park-River Forest, all eyes will be on Bochantin and her teammates as they aim to continue their winning streak. Fans and supporters are eager to see if this young athlete can keep the momentum going and lead her team to further victories.
