The Erie County Republican Party celebrated significant victories in key Southtowns races during the elections held on November 4, 2025. While the party faced setbacks in some high-profile contests, such as the positions of Amherst Town Supervisor and Erie County Comptroller, they found success in suburban areas including Hamburg and Orchard Park.

In the wake of these elections, Michael Kracker, Chairman of the Erie County Republican Committee, acknowledged the efforts of local leaders, particularly Daniel O’Connell, the chair of the Hamburg Republicans. Kracker remarked, “He looks like he’s ready to take some R and R, and it’s well deserved. This has been something he’s been building for years, and I think we owe you a debt of gratitude.”

The most closely watched race was for the Town Supervisor in Hamburg. Democratic candidate Robert Reynolds initially led in early voting returns. Nevertheless, Beth Farrell Lorentz, the Republican candidate, rallied to secure a narrow victory, winning by just 111 votes. During her victory speech, Lorentz emphasized the importance of community trust, stating, “This was a resounding win for the taxpayers of Hamburg. I’m so proud to be able to represent Hamburg… that we are going to listen and we’re going to deliver on those promises.”

In addition to the Supervisor race, two seats on the Hamburg Town Board were contested. Former Erie County Legislator Lynn Dixon emerged as the top vote-getter, accumulating a total of 9,038 votes across both the Republican and Conservative lines. Fellow Republican Nicholas Ortiz secured second place with 7,792 votes, successfully defeating Democratic challengers Megan Comerford and Jennifer Linsley. Dixon expressed gratitude for the support she received, highlighting the teamwork that contributed to their success.

The Republican Party also claimed victories in Orchard Park, with Julia Mombrea and Gregory Bennett winning the available Town Board seats. In the Town Supervisor race, Joseph Liberti defeated Democratic challenger Marie Mahon decisively, achieving a margin of nearly 20 percentage points.

These results reflect a mix of challenges and triumphs for the Republican Party in Erie County, showcasing their ability to secure victories in key suburban areas even as they faced tough competition in other races. The outcomes in Hamburg and Orchard Park are likely to influence the political landscape in Erie County in the coming years, as both parties prepare for future elections.
