The Healey-Driscoll Administration, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Life Science Center, has announced the distribution of $300,000 in grants through the Out-of-School Time Grant Program. Among the recipients, LynnLab has been awarded $31,488 to further its mission of making science education accessible to all students in the region.

Founded as a community-based biology lab, LynnLab provides hands-on programming at various events across the city. The organization partners with local schools, science centers, and libraries to engage students in interactive science experiences. This initiative aims to inspire young minds and cultivate an interest in the life sciences.

Support for Community Science Education

State Senator Brendan Crighton emphasized the importance of financial support for organizations like LynnLab, stating, “A critical way to support community out-of-school programming opportunities is to provide financial resources to these organizations so they can continue to do great work.” He expressed gratitude to the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Massachusetts Life Science Center for their commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists and researchers.

Representative Dan Cahill also praised LynnLab’s efforts, highlighting the significance of such programs in inspiring local youth. “By investing in programs like this, the Healey-Driscoll Administration and the Massachusetts Life Science Center are ensuring that every student has the opportunity to explore science, develop new skills, and envision a future in the life sciences right here in Massachusetts,” he remarked.

Igniting Curiosity Beyond the Classroom

Representative Jenny Armini noted the role of out-of-school programs in stimulating students’ imaginations. “Igniting the imaginations of young people often happens outside the classroom. This grant will make that possible for Lynn students,” she stated. This sentiment was echoed by Representative Sean Reid, who acknowledged LynnLab’s efforts to make science engaging and relevant. “Thank you to the Administration and the MLSC for recognizing the urgent need to spark more interest and careers in the sciences, and for investing in organizations that make this happen,” he said.

Mayor Jared C. Nicholson commended LynnLab for its commitment to providing inclusive life science education. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the Healey-Driscoll Administration, stating, “LynnLab is a great community partner that is centering accessible, inclusive life science education to our youth. We appreciate the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s continuous support of expanding these opportunities to our younger generation.”

The grant awarded to LynnLab represents a significant investment in the future of STEM education in Lynn, Massachusetts. With this funding, the organization is poised to continue its mission of fostering a love for science and providing valuable educational experiences for students in the community.
