The highly anticipated Pendleton Idol will debut on October 29, 2023, offering local singers the opportunity to showcase their talents in a community-focused singing competition. Inspired by the acclaimed series “American Idol,” this event aims to celebrate the vibrant musical talent of Eastern Oregon and engage the local audience.
Competition Details and Audition Schedule
Auditions will take place at The Vert Auditorium, located at 480 SW Dorion Ave, from 18:00 to 20:00 on the opening night, with additional audition dates set for November 5, November 12, and November 19. The auditions are free and welcome contestants of all ages, providing a platform for aspiring performers to compete for a spot in the grand finale.
Participants will be vying for the title of Pendleton Idol Champion, along with a cash grand prize of $500, a custom Molly Silver belt buckle, and the chance to be recognized as a standout local talent. The competition culminates in a live finale scheduled for December 11, 2023, from 19:00 to 22:00 at the Pendleton Convention Center. The runner-up will receive a cash prize of $250.
Audience Participation and Competition Rules
Unlike its television counterpart, the Pendleton Idol finale will not lead contestants to Hollywood. Instead, it emphasizes community involvement, allowing audience members to support their favorites and influence the outcome through a free online poll. Tickets for the grand finale are available on the Pendleton Convention Center website, with VIP tickets priced at $23 and general admission at $13.
Finalists will be chosen after the conclusion of auditions on November 20. Contestants must sign up in advance, as no last-minute entries will be accepted. The competition rules stipulate that auditions must be performed without any backing tracks, although finalists may use them during the finale. Songs containing profanity or offensive language are prohibited, and all song selections require approval from the judges.
Each participant will have a maximum of five minutes to perform one song per round, and no background dancers are allowed. Performers may use a single musical instrument, with a piano or keyboard available upon request. Both contestants and audience members are expected to adhere to venue policies to ensure a respectful and enjoyable atmosphere.
As excitement builds for this inaugural event, the Pendleton Idol team encourages community members to rally their friends and family to support local talent. This competition promises to be a night of unforgettable entertainment that highlights the artistic spirit of Pendleton.
