Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA) has successfully achieved recertification for its respiratory services under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) program. This certification is administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and serves as a testament to GMHA’s compliance with federal quality and safety standards for respiratory and blood gas testing.
The reaccreditation confirms GMHA’s commitment to maintaining high standards in patient care. It ensures the accuracy and reliability of tests that are vital for making critical treatment decisions. Dr. Joleen M. Aguon, interim GMH Administrator and CEO, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “This is exactly the kind of progress we’re proud to build upon. We are investing in people, in systems, and in quality.”
Significance of Reaccreditation
Respiratory and blood gas testing is essential for diagnosing and managing serious conditions such as chronic lung disease and respiratory failure. The certification underscores GMHA’s role as the only public hospital in Guam capable of delivering comprehensive respiratory diagnostics to the community. Belle Rada, GMHA’s associate administrator of professional services, emphasized the dedication of the hospital’s teams, stating, “This reaccreditation reflects the hard work and commitment of our respiratory and laboratory teams, who ensure our patients receive the highest standard of care every day.”
The CLIA certification is mandatory for clinical laboratories conducting human testing in the United States and its territories. To secure reaccreditation, GMHA underwent an extensive federal review process that assessed technical competency, quality control, and compliance with rigorous laboratory standards. Daleina Alo, chief of GMH respiratory, remarked, “This certification is definitely an achievement. It’s a promise to our patients that we’re meeting and exceeding national standards for respiratory services.”
Commitment to Quality Care
GMHA’s reaccreditation is not only a reflection of its current capabilities but also a commitment to future growth. The hospital is focused on expanding its services and enhancing its diagnostic capacity. Dr. Aguon, who also serves as GMHA’s medical director of respiratory care, highlighted the importance of this certification in supporting quality-driven care within the facility.
The dedication of GMHA’s respiratory team to delivering trusted results is evident, as they strive to exceed expectations in patient care. This significant milestone reaffirms GMHA’s role in providing essential health services to the Guam community, ensuring that patients receive the highest level of care based on accurate and timely diagnostic testing.
