David “Dave” Platt, a cherished member of his community, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, at the age of 70 after a brief illness. Born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, California, he led a life filled with service, family, and diverse interests.

Growing up in Whittier, Dave embraced the outdoors and participated in activities such as Scouting and Little League Baseball. He graduated from Calhi School in 1973, demonstrating early on a commitment to both education and community involvement. After starting his college journey, he relocated to Northern California, where he earned a degree in Anthropology from Sonoma State University in 1978.

During this transformative period, Dave married Jan Vogee. Following their time together, he settled in the Santa Cruz area. It was here that he married Ailene Platt and welcomed his daughter, Carolanne Baker. Throughout his career, Dave served as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) for the state of California, where he earned the nickname “The Safety Guy.” His work focused on educating employers about workplace safety and preventing injuries, making a significant impact in the field.

Community Engagement and Personal Interests

In 2019, Dave moved to Sequim, Washington, where he spent his final years. His passion for life was evident in his love for photography, cooking, fishing, gardening, and music. He frequently attended concerts, sharing his enthusiasm for the arts with friends and family.

Dave was also a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, further illustrating his commitment to youth and community service. He is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006, along with his daughter Carolanne, a sister, and numerous extended family members, including three brothers-in-law and three nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt. In honor of his memory, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, reflecting his dedication to helping others in need.

As family and friends remember Dave, they celebrate a life characterized by love, laughter, and a steadfast dedication to safety and community. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to resonate through the lives he touched.
