UPDATE: The Southern Section flag football playoffs delivered thrilling action on Saturday, with several teams advancing to the quarterfinals. Bishop Amat dominated Cajon with a decisive score of 25-0, while Newbury Park edged out Portola at 26-18, setting the stage for an electrifying postseason.
The second round saw a flurry of competitive matches across various divisions, making every play count. In Division 2, Ventura triumphed over Northwood with a score of 40-27, and Downey defeated San Clemente 25-6. Meanwhile, Westlake secured a narrow victory against Beckman, finishing at 20-6.
In Division 3, La Serna claimed victory with a score of 20-13 against Foothill, while Sunny Hills blanked Moorpark 20-0. Long Beach Poly also performed strongly with a 26-7 win over Norco.
The competition heated up further in Division 4 as Riverside King showcased their strength with a commanding 41-25 victory against Gardena Serra. Temecula Valley also advanced, defeating St. Mary’s Academy 33-22.
Moving to Division 5, Moreno Valley narrowly defeated Quartz Hill 13-12, while Anaheim overcame Long Beach Jordan 20-19. Vista Murrieta struggled in a tight game against Buena Park, ultimately losing 7-0.
In Division 6, Leuzinger secured their spot with a 25-13 win against Brentwood, and Hillcrest triumphed over Godinez 20-6.
MONDAY’S SCHEDULE: The excitement continues with quarterfinal matches scheduled for Monday at 5 p.m. (local time). Key matchups include JSerra at Santa Margarita and Orange Lutheran facing off against San Marcos. Notably, the quarterfinals for Divisions 2-6 will take place on October 28, followed by semifinals on November 1 and finals on November 7-8 at Fred Kelly Stadium.
