UPDATE: A new lunch and dinner hotspot has just opened in downtown Saginaw, offering a vibrant array of fresh salads, homemade soups, and smoothies. The Salad Bar by Soul Food Sistas, owned by Latasha Lawson, officially launched in May 2024 and is quickly gaining attention for its commitment to quality and community.
Located at 203 S. Washington Ave., inside the SVRC Marketplace, Lawson’s establishment is more than just a salad bar. It’s a labor of love, as she emphasizes the use of high-quality, from-scratch ingredients in every dish. “I’m so meticulous; everything is house. My business comes first because (it’s) my blood, my sweat, my tears,” Lawson expressed, highlighting her dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience.
The Salad Bar features a wide selection of fresh greens, including spring mix, romaine, and spinach, complemented by an assortment of toppings like banana peppers, cucumbers, and even fruits such as strawberries and blueberries. Customers can choose from set salad options or create their own, allowing for a personalized meal tailored to individual preferences.
One standout offering is the Kenya Special, a tribute salad in memory of Lawson’s late friend, Kenya Collins. This special includes spinach, chicken, shrimp, and a medley of toppings, showcasing Lawson’s commitment to honoring her community through her food.
The Salad Bar also caters to health-conscious diners with vegan options, such as chickpeas, black beans, and vegan yogurt for smoothies. Alongside salads, patrons can enjoy sandwiches, wraps, and rotating soups, with fan-favorite chicken and dumpling soup made from Lawson’s family recipe, handed down from her 87-year-old mother, Lettie Donald.
The bustling atmosphere of the SVRC Marketplace creates a vibrant community hub, where small businesses like Lawson’s can thrive. “I wish more people knew about the SVRC Marketplace. It’s a great starting point for any small business,” she noted.
The Salad Bar is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, making it a convenient choice for lunch or dinner. For those looking to explore healthier dining options, this new establishment is a must-visit.
As the buzz continues to grow, patrons are encouraged to support The Salad Bar and experience the passion that Latasha Lawson brings to her culinary creations. Check out their Facebook page for the latest updates and menu specials.
