florida-judge-awards-masvidal-over-5-million-from-fanmio

UPDATE: A Florida judge has just awarded UFC veteran Jorge Masvidal a staggering $5,315,268.64 in a default judgment against the online platform Fanmio. Judge Beatrice Butchko Sanchez confirmed this decision, following an arbitrator’s ruling related to Masvidal’s boxing match against Nate Diaz in 2024.

This ruling comes after Masvidal filed his lawsuit in January 2024, claiming his contract for the Diaz fight included a purse of $6 million, with an additional $1 million bonus for a victory. Despite losing the match by decision, Masvidal contended that he only received a $150,000 advance and a subsequent $1 million payment, far below the agreed amount.

The arbitrator’s decision not only backs Masvidal’s claims but also underscores the ongoing legal battles Fanmio faces. Just two weeks after Masvidal’s lawsuit, Diaz filed his own against Fanmio, demanding over $9 million. An arbitrator has already awarded Diaz $6 million plus attorney fees, but this case is still pending final approval.

FanMio’s legal challenges don’t stop there. In March, the platform initiated a lawsuit against Golden Boy Promotions and fighter Ryan Garcia over a canceled exhibition match that was supposed to occur on December 31, 2024. Garcia opted to fight Rolando Romero instead, adding to the turmoil surrounding Fanmio.

With Masvidal’s victory in court, the athlete has secured a significant financial win. This judgment not only impacts his career but could also set important precedents for fighter contracts and promotions in the future. Fans and analysts alike are now watching closely to see how this will influence the ongoing disputes between Fanmio and other fighters.

Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the legal ramifications continue to unfold!
