Knott’s Scary Farm has introduced an innovative interactive lantern that allows visitors to control lighting effects across more than 100 locations in the park. This unique experience is available for $48 and enhances the thrill of attractions during the Halloween season at the Buena Park theme park.

The interactive lantern enables guests to trigger special effects by simply pressing a button when within range of designated activation points. This feature transforms the atmosphere of rides and attractions, adding an extra layer of excitement.
According to Gus Krueger, the maze designer at Knott’s Berry Farm, the lantern can activate various effects across the park. A digital map is provided to help visitors locate all the activation spots, ensuring they can make the most of their experience.
When the lantern is switched from static to interactive mode, guests can initiate effects such as:
- Changing the K sign atop the Sky Cabin to a flaming lighting scheme.
- Activating smoke effects and turning the exterior of the Jaguar coaster temple facade a fiery red.
- Briefly dimming the lights on the exterior of the Calico Mine Ride.
- Transforming the lighting scheme on the Supreme Scream drop tower from green to red.
Effects Extend Throughout the Park
The interactive lantern’s capabilities extend beyond rides. It can trigger effects in ten haunted mazes and five scare zones, enriching the overall experience for visitors. For example, guests can use the lantern to make a skeleton emerge from the Forsaken Lake, activate sound effects at the entrance of the Blind Tiger speakeasy, and even animate a terrifying spider tree.
Additional effects include launching a newscast at a Gore-ing ‘20s newsstand and revealing a glowing casket. These features immerse visitors in a world of horror and excitement, making each visit unique.
