Russ Borden, Jr., aged 78, passed away on October 8, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the cherished husband of Joann Borden (née Lussier) and a devoted father to three children. Born on August 13, 1947, in Portsmouth, Virginia, Russ dedicated both his personal and professional life to serving others.

Raised by his parents, Claire (Taylor) and Russell Borden, Sr., he graduated from Montville High School in 1965 before pursuing further education at Mitchell College and Mohegan Community College. His career began at General Dynamics within the Electric Boat Division, where he contributed to the design and ballasting of the 668 and TRIDENT class submarines. After a fruitful career spanning 42 years, he retired in 2008.

Russ’s military service in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict was a defining aspect of his life. It was during this time that he met his soulmate, JoAnn. The couple married on September 13, 1969, solidifying a partnership that lasted for over half a century.

Following his military discharge, Russ returned to Connecticut and continued his work at Electric Boat. In retirement, he and JoAnn relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia. Together, they enjoyed a fulfilling life, marked by shared experiences and deep affection.

Russ is survived by his three children: Todd Borden (Maggie) of Olvera, Spain; Tara Borden of Nyack, New York; and Seth Borden of West Greenwich, Rhode Island. He also leaves behind a grandson, Benjamin Borden, as well as siblings and a wide network of family members, including sisters Janet Beving and Pamela Tashea, and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family expressed profound gratitude for the care provided by the team at Heartland Hospice and the staff at the Hospice House of Williamsburg. They conveyed their heartfelt thanks, emphasizing the importance of kindness in honoring Russ’s memory.

In accordance with his wishes, Russ will be cremated, with a private celebration of his life planned. His legacy as a loving husband, father, and friend will undoubtedly leave an enduring impact on those who knew him.

As a testament to his spirit, his family encourages acts of kindness in his memory, reflecting the love and compassion that Russ embodied throughout his life.
