
The community of Campobello, South Carolina, mourns the loss of beloved couple Margaret “Maggie” Marth Cook and her husband Reverend Dr. Boyd F. Cook, who passed away just days apart in September 2025. Maggie Cook, 85, died on September 24 from complications related to a stroke, while Boyd Cook, 84, succumbed to complications from Alzheimer’s disease on September 29. Their intertwined lives of 63 years came to a close, underscoring their deep bond and commitment to each other.
Maggie Cook was born on September 20, 1940, to parents Arnold and Clara Marth. She is remembered for her dedication to education, having worked as an elementary teacher and librarian at both Hilton Head Island Elementary and Chapin Elementary. Throughout her career, she shaped the lives of countless students, instilling a love of learning in each of them.
Boyd Cook, born on May 8, 1941, to Floyd and Helen Cook, served as a pastor for nearly four decades. His ministry included leadership roles at several churches, including Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church in Saluda, Living Word Lutheran Church in Memphis, Christ Lutheran Church in Hilton Head, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Chapin. Additionally, he founded and led Lutheran Homes of SC, providing invaluable services to the community.
A Life of Service and Commitment
The couple’s dedication to their faith and service was evident in their partnership both in life and ministry. They are survived by three children: Ronnie Cook (Louann), Diane Prewitt (Tom), and Amy Oliver (Scott). Their legacy continues through their grandchildren, including Brian Oliver (Lindsey), Daniel Oliver, and Drayton Cook, as well as their great-granddaughter Baylor Oliver.
Their passing within days of each other has left a profound impact on their family and community. A private celebration of their lives will be organized at a later date, allowing family and close friends to honor the couple’s remarkable journey together.
