URGENT UPDATE: A wave of cold air is set to sweep across much of Massachusetts tonight, triggering freeze and frost warnings that will be in effect from 11 p.m. Thursday until 9 a.m. Friday. The National Weather Service warns that sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees are expected, particularly in inland communities.

Residents in the affected areas, including Berkshire, Bristol, and Hampden Counties, should take immediate precautions to protect sensitive vegetation and crops from potential damage. Coastal regions, including Cape Cod and Nantucket, are not expected to experience frost, but the rest of the state is bracing for widespread conditions that could lead to significant impacts.

Temperatures are anticipated to reach their lowest point just before 7 a.m. Friday. The frost advisory will cover areas along the coast, including parts of Plymouth, Norfolk, Essex, and Suffolk Counties, with expected lows around 33 degrees.

As the weekend approaches, conditions will shift. Friday’s daytime highs are forecasted to climb into the low 60s under sunny skies, but the cold snap will return overnight, with temperatures dipping into the upper 30s to low 40s. Saturday is expected to bring slightly warmer conditions with highs in the mid 60s but will still see cooler overnight lows.

Looking ahead, a chance of rain will begin after midnight on Sunday, continuing through Monday. Residents should be prepared for daily highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and overnight lows in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Additionally, a coastal flood watch will be in effect starting Sunday morning, lasting through late Monday night. This weather pattern could lead to hazardous conditions for travelers and outdoor activities.
