The Colquitt County Lady Packers staged a remarkable comeback on October 7, 2025, overcoming a six-run deficit to defeat Cook High School 10-9 in an exhilarating eight-inning softball game in Adel, Georgia. The victory not only improved the Lady Packers’ record to 14-15 but also avenged an earlier 3-1 loss to Cook from August 12.
After falling behind 6-0 in the first two innings, the Lady Packers found their footing in the fourth inning, scoring four runs. This surge was bolstered by a strong performance from relief pitcher Kamry Paulk, who replaced starter Lilah Thompson and held the Lady Hornets scoreless for 5.2 innings. Paul’s efforts were crucial in allowing her team to mount a comeback.
The game shifted dramatically in the top of the seventh inning when Colquitt scored two runs to take a 7-6 lead. Despite this, Cook responded with a tying run in the bottom of the seventh, pushing the game into extra innings. In the eighth, Colquitt surged ahead again, scoring three runs, with Dee Tillman driving in two with a pivotal two-run single that put the Lady Packers up 10-7.
Cook fought back valiantly on their home field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth. However, Paulk secured the final out with a fly ball caught by center fielder Rheygan Harrell, sealing the victory for Colquitt.
The loss marked a setback for Cook, ranked No. 5 in Class 2A, dropping their record to 21-4. The Lady Packers, fresh off a thrilling late-game comeback against Tift County just days earlier, demonstrated resilience and determination that has become characteristic of their recent play.
Colquitt’s offensive performance included a total of 11 hits, all singles, against Cook’s pitcher Libby Fulghum. Harrell and teammate Allie Eure each contributed three hits. Harrell’s single initiated the scoring in the fourth inning, while Eure’s hit in the seventh set the stage for Tillman’s pivotal two-run single that shifted the momentum firmly in Colquitt’s favor.
Paulk’s outstanding relief pitching was highlighted by her nine strikeouts, earning her the win. While she allowed three runs, only one was earned, showcasing her ability to navigate pressure situations effectively. Other contributors to Colquitt’s offense included Arrington, Tillman, Paulk, Rhylee Tillery, and Hallie Thompson, all of whom added hits to the team’s total.
Looking ahead, the Lady Packers will close out their regular season with a home game against Lee County on October 9, 2025, at 17:30. They are set to enter the state playoffs next week at Buford, aiming to build on this momentum from their thrilling victory against Cook.
