Arlene Mabel Krueger, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 94. A lifelong resident of Rochester, Minnesota, Arlene’s legacy is rooted in her dedication to family, church, and community.

Born on January 9, 1931, in Shell Rock, Iowa, Arlene was the daughter of John and Mabel (Wagner) Jans. She began her education in local country schools before attending high school in Readlyn and Denver, Iowa, where she graduated in 1948. During her time in school, she actively participated in sports, notably as a member of the women’s basketball team and as a cheerleader.

Arlene’s spiritual journey began when she was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on July 3, 1949. Shortly thereafter, she married Donald A. Krueger on May 19, 1950, at the same church, marking the start of a partnership that would last for decades.

Throughout her career, Arlene held various positions that showcased her versatility and work ethic. She started as an employee at Lutheran Mutual Insurance Company in Waverly, Iowa, followed by a role at Kress Stores in Hutchinson, Kansas. Later, she worked as a school aide at Hempstead High School in Dubuque, Iowa, before concluding her career at Norwest Mortgage in Rochester, Minnesota.

Arlene was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester, where she contributed significantly to multiple groups, including the ladies’ Sarah Circle and the Shalom Christ Care group. Her involvement extended to the church’s Funeral Committee, as well as counting and recording church offerings. Arlene enjoyed Bible studies and was passionate about quilting, earning several county and regional awards for her creations.

Family was at the heart of Arlene’s life. She cherished her time spent with her daughters, Mary Hanley and Lisa (Ford) Erickson, as well as her four grandchildren: Matthew Hanley (Kate), Allison Heil (Christopher), Kai Erickson, and Cody Erickson. Arlene also delighted in the company of her three great-grandchildren: Miles Hanley, Avery Heil, and Sean Heil.

Arlene’s passing marks the end of an era filled with love and community service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, and her son-in-law, Michael Hanley, along with her parents and extended family members.

A memorial service to honor Arlene’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 15, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with visitation scheduled one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a light luncheon will be served. For those unable to attend in person, the memorial service will also be available via livestream on the church’s website: https://www.redeemer-rochester.com/church-online/.

Interment will occur at a private family gathering in Denver, Iowa, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences can be shared at www.mackenfuneralhome.com, as the community comes together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman.
