The Mandan City Commission is actively seeking applicants for 20 positions across ten boards and committees aimed at enhancing city governance and community development. These appointments will take effect in 2026 and cover a range of areas, including the Airport Authority, Architectural Review Commission, and the Planning & Zoning Commission. Residents and members of the business community are encouraged to apply by October 31 or until the positions are filled.

Individuals interested in contributing to the city’s future can find more information about the boards and the application process at cityofmandan.com/boards. The application form is available at cityofmandan.com/boardapplication.

Community Initiatives and Public Engagement

In addition to board applications, public voting is currently open for the city’s Beautification Recognition Program. This initiative celebrates residential and commercial properties that enhance Mandan’s visual appeal. The Community Beautification Committee has nominated ten properties across three categories: seasonal/holiday display, landscape maintenance/enhancements, and commercial properties. Voting will conclude at 23:45 on October 17 at surveymonkey.com/r/25recognitionprogram.

In a separate legal matter, a Mandan man named Dallas Riskedahl has pleaded not guilty to charges of gross sexual imposition following an incident in February where a woman became unconscious after drinking. Riskedahl’s trial is scheduled for December 9. Notably, charges against another suspect, Tristin Kruckenberg, have been dismissed after DNA evidence implicated Riskedahl.

Upcoming Events and Local News

The Morton County Courthouse in Mandan will transform into a haunted experience on October 31 for an event titled “Morton County’s Most Haunted: The Trial of Elias Voss.” Scheduled to begin at 17:30, the event will feature community volunteers recreating eerie courtroom scenes inspired by a fictional trial. Free admission will be offered, and donations will benefit Colter Hanson, a five-year-old from New Salem currently battling cancer.

In other local news, a recent traffic incident led to the temporary closure of westbound Interstate 94 between Bismarck and Mandan following a multivehicle crash. The community continues to address various concerns, including child safety and local governance, as these cases unfold.

Mandan’s initiatives reflect its commitment to community involvement and the enhancement of local governance through citizen engagement, emphasizing the vital role residents play in shaping their city’s future.
