Long’s Drugs CVS successfully hosted a drive-through flu shot event on October 21, 2023, at the Kukui Grove parking lot in Lihue, Kauai. The initiative, which began at 8 a.m., attracted a significant number of participants eager to receive flu vaccinations and other available immunizations.
A spokesperson for Long’s Drugs CVS reported that traffic was robust throughout the morning as community members took advantage of the convenient drive-through format. This event marked the second such campaign for Long’s in 2023, following a similar initiative held in Hilo on the Big Island.
Collaboration and Community Impact
Prior to the start of the event, representatives from HMSA arrived early to set up tents and prepare giveaway bags for participants. The drive-through was designed to accommodate both drive-up and walk-up individuals, ensuring accessibility for all members of the community.
Individuals with insurance plans from HMSA, Medicare Prime, UHA, HMAA, or Tricare were eligible to receive free flu shots, along with other vaccinations such as those for shingles and pneumonia. This approach not only promotes public health but also encourages more residents to get vaccinated.
Future Vaccination Events Planned
Following the successful event in Kauai, Long’s Drugs CVS is scheduled to host additional drive-through vaccination campaigns on Oahu and Maui. These upcoming events aim to continue the momentum of vaccination efforts across the Hawaiian Islands, addressing the community’s health needs.
For those who could not attend the drive-through event, flu shots and other vaccinations remain available at any Long’s Drugs pharmacy during regular business hours. This ongoing accessibility is vital in supporting public health initiatives and ensuring that residents can protect themselves and their families during the flu season.
