UPDATE: Kirk Humbles III delivered a stunning performance, scoring three touchdowns in a spectacular display that propelled Alameda to a commanding 45-21 victory over Mt. Diablo on the evening of September 19, 2025 in Concord, California.
Humbles, a senior, showcased his versatility by rushing for a score, catching a touchdown pass, and returning an interception for a pick-six, all within the first half. “As soon as I get the ball, you already know what time it is,” Humbles stated after the game. “The goal is to get five to 10 yards every time I touch the ball, but a touchdown is always nice.”
The Hornets entered the game motivated to avenge last season’s narrow loss to Mt. Diablo, and they wasted no time demonstrating their determination. Humbles finished with an impressive 203 yards from scrimmage, helping the Hornets secure their fourth consecutive win.
Alameda head coach Robin Morris expressed pride in his team, emphasizing their resilience. “We knew they were a good team, and they beat us by a touchdown last year. These kids came back fighting and fighting and fighting,” Morris said.
Despite the emotions surrounding their first home game of the season, Mt. Diablo struggled to keep pace. Following an early touchdown by Mt. Diablo’s Antonio Campbell III, who recovered a fumble and lateral-passed to Kaile Leffel for a stunning 70-yard score, Alameda quickly shifted momentum. Humbles responded with an electrifying 87-yard touchdown on a flip pass from quarterback Casey Koga-Dean, putting his team in the lead.
On Mt. Diablo’s next possession, Humbles made a game-changing play, intercepting a pass near the sideline and sprinting 81 yards for another touchdown. “I was just thinking about not trying to get caught,” Humbles recalled. “I’m just thinking about taking it to the crib.”
As the first half wound down, Koga-Dean connected with Austin Soper for a 52-yard touchdown pass, leaving Mt. Diablo reeling. The Hornets maintained control throughout the second half, with Humbles sealing the win with a final 35-yard score, extending the lead to 24 points.
Alameda’s defense proved formidable, stifling Mt. Diablo’s offense to just 52 passing yards in the first half and forcing four turnovers. “When it comes to defense, it’s just about knowing your responsibility and the basic fundamentals,” Coach Morris said.
With this victory, Alameda is off to its best start since 2023, eyeing a second consecutive West Alameda County Conference Shoreline Division title. Morris has consistently led the Hornets to winning seasons, sparking excitement for the remainder of the year.
As for Mt. Diablo, head coach Fetuao Mua acknowledged the disappointment. “There were definitely a lot of emotions going into it, but at the end of the day, there are no excuses. Alameda showed up to play football, and we didn’t.”
This match marks a significant chapter in both teams’ seasons, igniting conversations about their trajectories as they navigate the rest of the campaign. Fans are eagerly anticipating what comes next as Alameda continues its pursuit of excellence.
