The 12th annual Ohana FitFest, a family-friendly 5K obstacle course run/walk, is set to take place on September 27, 2023, in Princeville. Organized by North Shore Give, this event aims to bring the community together while raising funds for health and fitness programs in local schools.

According to a press release from North Shore Give, the Ohana FitFest offers a unique blend of fun and fitness, featuring obstacles designed for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Registration is currently open online at www.ohanafitfest.com, making it easy for everyone from seasoned runners to casual walkers to join in the festivities.

Event chair Ken Rosenthal, who is also a board member of North Shore Give and chair of the Health and Wellness Committee, highlighted the communal spirit of the event. “Ohana FitFest is more than a run or walk. It is one big, joyful celebration of community,” Rosenthal stated. The event encourages families and friends, whether local residents or visitors, to come together to enjoy physical activity while supporting initiatives that promote the health of children in the area.

In previous years, the Ohana FitFest has made significant contributions to local educational institutions. Last year, the event donated $15,000 to Kilauea Elementary School and Hanalei Elementary School. Over its history, the festival has raised more than $120,000 for various nonprofit organizations, including Kauai Christian Academy and Anaina Hou.

Each participant in this year’s event will receive a complimentary Ohana FitFest hat along with a ticket for random giveaways. Prizes include golf at Princeville Makai Golf Club, dining at AMA Hanalei, and tickets for the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort and Spa’s Tidepools, among other rewards.

Packet pickup and a pre-event Happy Hour will take place on September 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Makai Grill, located at the Makai Golf Club. The event will feature hula performances by Kauai legends Bev Kauanui and Haunani Kaui, adding to the festive atmosphere.

On the day of the Ohana FitFest, activities will commence with registration and check-in from 06:30 to 08:00, followed by a ceremonial pule. This year’s event introduces a new Start and Finish line, along with staging at the Princeville Disc Course on Lei O Papa Road. Awards, medals, and prizes will be presented starting at 10:30.
