URGENT UPDATE: Philip Craig Donecker, a vibrant 26-year-old from Wichita, Kansas, has tragically passed away after a courageous battle, surrounded by loved ones at Wesley Medical Center on September 6, 2025. This heartbreaking news has sent shockwaves through the community, where Philip was known for his warmth and infectious spirit.

Born on July 9, 1999, in Hays, Kansas, Philip was a dedicated master installer for Renewal by Anderson and a proud graduate of Central Plains High School Class of 2018. He further developed his skills with an associate’s degree in construction management from North Central Kansas Tech in Hays. Philip’s passion for life was evident in everything he did, from his love of snowboarding and golfing to his deep appreciation for family and friends.

Philip’s impact on those around him was profound. As a beloved son, brother, and friend, he was the heart of a close-knit group, deeply rooted in his childhood community of Claflin. Friends describe him as a guiding light, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. His strong faith, as a member of Zion Lutheran Church, further highlighted the values he cherished throughout his life.

The outpouring of grief is palpable as family members and friends reflect on Philip’s legacy. He is survived by his parents, Jeff and Megan Donecker of Claflin, and Michelle Smee and husband Chris of Hill City, along with his loving sisters, JoAnna, Caitlin, Natalie, and Emily Smee. His girlfriend, Isabelle “Izzy” Cannata, and numerous relatives, including grandparents and aunts and uncles, mourn his loss as well.

Funeral services are set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Central Plains Junior-Senior High School in Claflin, with pastors Kenton Abbott and Daniel Harders officiating. Interment will follow at Claflin Cemetery. The community is invited to pay their respects during visitation hours on September 10 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and September 11 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Family members will receive guests from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on this latter date, with a special time to share memories starting at 6 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home.
