UPDATE: Wallkill Valley football delivered a commanding performance, defeating North Warren 29-6 on September 5, 2023, in Blairstown. This victory marks the Rangers’ first 2-0 start since the 2020-21 season and their sixth consecutive win over North Warren since 2018.

After a shaky season opener where the Rangers struggled with an inexperienced quarterback, Wallkill Valley’s offense found its rhythm. Sophomore Cole Bolich, stepping in for the injured Kellan Brown, showcased his development, completing 7 of 11 passes for 108 yards. Bolich expressed his confidence boost, stating, “All of the guys are always hyping me up and helping me get over my nerves.”

The Rangers’ offense came alive in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a touchdown from senior Travis Snyder and another from Gabriel Perrotto-Wald, sealing the game with a strong 29-6 lead with just six minutes remaining. The team demonstrated depth, with eight players contributing to a total of 216 rushing yards.

Wallkill Valley’s defense continued to shine, effectively neutralizing North Warren’s Wing-T offense. Head coach Mark Hammil praised his players for their disciplined defense, saying, “That’s the thing about the Wing-T. If you don’t play disciplined defense they are going to gash you.” Senior defensive lineman Jack Carr was a standout, recording two tackles for loss and blocking a PAT, earning accolades for his leadership on the field.

Despite the loss, North Warren (1-1) has already matched its win total from last season. Head coach John Baum emphasized resilience, stating, “This game doesn’t define who we are. We are a different football team than we were last year.” The team aims to bounce back as they prepare for a matchup against Hopatcong on September 12.

Looking ahead, Wallkill Valley will face Kinnelon in one week. Coach Hammil remains focused on improvement: “We got to get better, that’s probably what the message is going to be.”

Stay tuned as both teams continue their seasons, striving for success in the weeks ahead.
