BREAKING: Carmel sophomore libero Beca Arreola is making waves in the volleyball world, proving her worth as an essential player for the Carmel High School team, which currently boasts a remarkable 7-1 record. Following her inspiring journey of perseverance, Arreola is ready to lead her team to unprecedented success.
After facing challenges on her club team two years ago, Arreola questioned her passion for volleyball. “The coach did not believe in me,” she recalled. “I knew I was a good player, but I was constantly told I was not good enough.” Her determination led her to take a break from the sport and return stronger than ever, stating, “I used that experience as motivation to work hard.”
Last season, despite not making the varsity team, Arreola remained focused. “My mentality was to work harder and prove to the coaches that I’m a good player,” she said. Her efforts paid off when she helped the freshman team go undefeated and earned a late-season call-up to varsity, recording 34 digs and three aces in limited play.
“She was a huge piece of our first undefeated team ever,” said coach David Pazely. “It got to the point where we couldn’t ignore her.”
As a starter this season, Arreola has already tallied 67 digs and has a stellar 97% serving percentage with 8 aces. Her performance in a recent two-game sweep of Marian Central Catholic showcased her skills, further solidifying her role on the team.
“This year she has continued to level up her play,” Pazely added. “She covers a ton of ground, is fast, and reads the game very well.” Coaches and teammates alike praise her ability to anticipate plays, often making remarkable saves just when it seems the ball will hit the ground.
Senior setter Suzy Trznadel noted the transformative impact Arreola has on the team. “Beca changes the dynamic of the team,” Trznadel stated. “Her calm and confidence on the court make her easy to trust. She pushes the players to be the best versions of themselves.”
Teammate Charlotte Shepherd, a second-year starter, encouraged Arreola to join her club team, Wisconsin Juniors, recognizing her exceptional volleyball IQ and discipline. “Her attitude on the court is always go, go, and go,” Shepherd remarked.
Looking ahead, Arreola is determined to continue her growth and lead her team. “I want to grow with my team,” she asserted. “I know I’m a leader and want to lead my team to success.”
The spotlight is on Beca Arreola as she and the Carmel Corsairs aim for a winning season, making headlines and inspiring others in the sports community. With her unwavering dedication and remarkable skills, she is a player to watch.
