Mendocino County is buzzing with a variety of community events from September 4 to September 10, offering residents and visitors numerous opportunities for engagement and entertainment. These activities cater to diverse interests, including arts, music, and educational workshops, ensuring there is something for everyone.

Weekly Highlights: Learning and Entertainment

On Thursday, September 4, the Ukiah Library hosts a Littles Story Time for children aged three and under from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. This free event at 105 N. Main St. is designed to introduce young children to the joy of reading. For those interested in the arts, the Willits Center for the Arts offers a drop-in life drawing group every Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participants can contribute on a sliding scale fee basis.

In the evening, the library presents the Lines and Spines Book Club, conducted via Zoom at 6:00 p.m. This event is also free and promises engaging discussions around literature.

Fridays in Mendocino County feature story time sessions at the Willits Library, running from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. at 390 E. Commercial St.. Later that evening, live music enthusiasts can enjoy a performance by the Moody Cat Trio featuring Sean Lehe at Shanachie Pub at 8:00 p.m. This event is free and located at 50 S. Main St. in Willits.

Saturdays bring further opportunities for community involvement. The Willits Library offers tech help from 11:00 a.m. to noon, followed by a spinning and knitting session from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m., both free of charge. Music lovers can attend the Bluegrass String Jam at Shanachie Pub at 3:00 p.m. and another live performance at 8:00 p.m. by Flow!, also at the pub.

Weekend Concerts and Workshops

On Sunday, September 7, the Ukiah Community Concert Association presents the Horszowski Piano Trio at the Mendocino College Theatre at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are priced at $35 in advance through local vendors, including Mendocino Book Company and Mazahar, as well as online at ukiahconcerts.org. Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $40, with free admission for high school students and younger children accompanied by an adult, as well as full-time college students enrolled in 12 or more units.

Additionally, the Grange Garden is hosting a workshop titled “In the Grange Kitchen” on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Little Lake Grange, located at 291 School St. Participants will learn to create their own basil pesto salad dressing, with a discussion on various herbs. This free class requires pre-registration due to limited seating. Interested individuals can register by calling 707-889-2449.

Tuesdays present more opportunities for community engagement with the Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) group meeting at Calvary Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. Visitors are always welcome, with the first meeting free of charge. The Willits Library continues its weekly offerings with Penny University from 11:00 a.m. to noon and the Lego Club from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., both free activities.

Finally, on the second Wednesday of each month, the Ukiah Library hosts a Crafting Corner from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., providing a creative outlet for attendees.
