After suffering serious injuries, including back fractures and elbow surgery, Maita was determined to reclaim his position as the starting quarterback. However, Neuqua Valley head coach Bill Ellinghaus chose junior Drake Mennecke as the starter, prompting Maita to shift to defense for the team’s benefit. “He’s too good of an athlete to keep off the field,” Ellinghaus said.
Despite the initial disappointment, Maita embraced the challenge, stating, “Whatever my team needs from me to help us win, I’m totally 100% good with that.” His commitment paid off immediately.
