bronx-stabbing-claims-life-of-ex-con-family-faces-second-tragedy

UPDATE: A Bronx liquor store became the scene of a tragic stabbing late Monday night, claiming the life of Katrell Dixon, 31, just after 10:30 p.m.. This incident marks a devastating turn for his family, who previously lost Katrell’s older brother, Cory Dixon, to gun violence over a decade ago.

Katrell was embroiled in a heated argument outside the store located on Third Ave. near E. 165th St. when an assailant pulled a knife and stabbed him multiple times in the chest. “It’s the second son I lost,” said Sharon Dixon, Katrell’s mother. “It’s a mother’s worst nightmare.” The family, still reeling from Cory’s death, is now facing another unbearable loss.

Katrell had recently been released from prison on July 12, 2023, after serving six years for attempted murder linked to a shooting in Queens. His parole was set to expire in June 2024. “He was turning his life around,” said his brother Darnell Dixon, 40, who works as a line cook. “He was on the right track… a good brother, father, and son.”

The family believes Katrell’s life spiraled after Cory was murdered in 2013. Cory was shot after an argument at a house party, leaving behind three daughters and a grieving family. “When Cory died, Katrell’s life changed completely,” Darnell explained, highlighting the profound impact of violence that has plagued their family.

Witnesses described the horrifying scene at the liquor store, revealing Katrell lying on the ground, bleeding and unconscious. “He was stabbed, bleeding from the chest,” said Basilio Bellow, 57, a local restaurant owner. Despite immediate medical attention, Katrell was pronounced dead at Lincoln Hospital.

As of now, police have not apprehended the assailant, who fled the scene with a female companion, last seen running south on Third Ave. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the stabbing, which has left the community in shock.

Katrell’s troubled past includes a criminal record with 21 arrests, though many details remain sealed. Authorities suspect he may have been associated with the “Billy Bad A–” gang, a subset of the Nine Trey Gangsters and the Bloods. However, it remains unclear if gang activity was involved in his death.

This latest incident underscores a persistent cycle of violence that has devastated families across the Bronx and beyond. As the community mourns yet another life lost to violence, Katrell’s family is left to grapple with their grief and seek justice.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the stabbing to come forward. The family, now facing unimaginable pain for the second time, hopes to find closure and prevent further tragedy.
