
Helen B. Fabrizi, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on the evening of August 16, 2025, at the age of 98. She had been residing at the Sunnyside Care Center in East Syracuse for the past two years. Helen’s life was marked by her deep connections with family and her dedication to her community.
A Life Rooted in Canastota
Born on June 20, 1927, in Canastota, Helen was the daughter of Salvatore and Irene Teller Bonaventura. A lifelong resident, she graduated from Canastota Central School as part of the Class of 1945. Her commitment to her hometown was evident throughout her life.
On June 19, 1948, she married Guerino Fabrizi at St. Agatha’s Church. Together, they built a family until Guerino’s passing on July 20, 1988. Helen’s legacy continues through her children, Debra Norwalk and Dennis Fabrizi, who have been significant figures in her life.
A Legacy of Service and Passion
Before retiring, Helen spent an impressive 44 years as a bank teller at Key Bank. Following her retirement, she dedicated 18 years to volunteering as a teacher’s aide at South Side Elementary School in Canastota, demonstrating her commitment to education and the younger generation.
Helen had a vibrant personality, enjoying crossword puzzles and regularly tuning in to Jeopardy. An avid fan of the New York Yankees, she found joy in both sports and shopping. Her involvement with the Community Players Theatre showcased her love for the arts, and her strong Catholic faith provided her with guidance throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Walt Ulrich) Norwalk, and son, Dennis (Susanne) Fabrizi, along with four grandchildren: Sara (Ian Berry) Buske, Kate (Mark Brennan) Norwalk, Thomas Fabrizi, and Alexis Fabrizi. Helen also leaves behind one great-grandson, Daniel Buske, two brothers, Joseph (Leona) Bonaventura and Harold Bonaventura, and a sister-in-law, Joanne Fabrizi. A special friend and caregiver, Linda Steffan, was also an integral part of her later years.
Helen’s family remembers her fondly, despite the loss of her three sisters and a brother, as well as her son-in-law, Daniel Norwalk. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life filled with love and service.
Graveside services will take place at 11:30 AM on August 23, 2025, at St. Agatha’s Cemetery. There will be no prior services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Wanderer’s Rest Humane Association at P.O. Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032.
