BREAKING: The Chicago Cubs are taking urgent action regarding struggling right fielder Kyle Tucker, who will receive multiple days off to reset following a dismal performance in Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers. Manager Craig Counsell confirmed the decision after the Cubs’ 7-0 loss on Monday.

Tucker, 28, went 0 for 4 in the game, leading to boos from frustrated fans during his last three at-bats, which included two weak groundouts and a pop-up to left field. His performance throughout August has been alarming, with a batting average of just .160 and no extra-base hits.

“The fans are frustrated and Kyle is frustrated,” Counsell stated following the game. “He’s trying. It’s just not clicking. We’re going to have to take a step back here, just give him some days off to reset him, hopefully.”

Tucker’s struggles have been compounded by a lack of home runs since July 19 and just four extra-base hits since July 1. His ground ball rate has surged to 53.7% this month, ranking him 17th among qualified hitters, a stark contrast to his position at the start of August when he was ninth lowest.

Despite his overall season stats showing a decent .261 average and an .821 OPS, the Cubs are concerned about his recent performance. “He hasn’t slugged in quite a while,” said Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer. “The ball is not in the air. A lot of it is mechanical.”

Tucker’s early-season injury—a jammed right ring finger—was initially thought to have affected his grip, but he insists that is no longer an issue. “He’s too good a player for it not to click,” Hoyer added, expressing hope that Tucker will find his rhythm again.

As Tucker works off the field to identify solutions, he will be sidelined for at least a few games. Meanwhile, Cubs starter Cade Horton left Game 1 in the third inning due to a blister issue but assured fans, “It’s nothing crazy,” indicating he expects to make his next start.

This decision marks a critical moment for Tucker as he faces the pressure of being a free agent after this season. Fans will be watching closely to see if this time off helps him rediscover his form.
