Thailand’s Creative Economy Agency (CEA) is set to launch the second edition of its Content Project Market, aimed at fostering connections between local creators and a diverse array of investors. Scheduled for September 10-12, 2023, at Bangkok’s True Digital Park, this event will provide a platform for Thai filmmakers, screenwriters, and animators to pitch their projects to over 70 participating production houses, content investors, distributors, and streaming platforms from both Thailand and abroad.
The Content Project Market will feature a robust agenda that includes project pitching sessions, business-to-business (B2B) matchmaking, and networking receptions. Additionally, industry forums led by both Thai and international experts will be available, welcoming participation from content professionals as well as the general public.
Chakrit Pichyangkul, executive director of CEA, articulated the agency’s vision for the event, stating, “CEA views the Content Project Market as more than just an event — it is a step toward building a comprehensive and sustainable ecosystem for Thai content creators.” By linking talent with funding and commercial platforms, the event aims to facilitate the progression of projects into production and enhance the global competitiveness of Thai content.
Supporting Thailand’s Creative Economy
The initiative aligns with Thailand’s broader strategy to enhance its soft power, positioning the nation as an emerging creative hub within Southeast Asia. Pichyangkul highlighted the economic implications of promoting Thai content, asserting that “Thai films and series have the power to attract international tourists and drive demand for Thai products and services featured in global content.” The Content Project Market not only elevates the visibility of Thai content creators but also serves as a strategic driver for the sustainable growth of the country’s creative economy.
A total of 54 creative teams will showcase their projects during the market. Among them, 34 teams originate from CEA’s Content Lab 2025 program, which consists of three specialized tracks:
1. Mid-Career: Project, focusing on established creators developing content for international markets.
2. Mid-Career: Story, aimed at screenwriters crafting commercially viable scripts.
3. Mid-Career: Animation, dedicated to creators preparing Thai animations for production.
Additionally, an extra 20 professional content teams have been selected through an open call process, enhancing the diversity of projects on display.
CEA’s Role in Creative Development
Operating as a public agency supervised by the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand, CEA is committed to fostering balanced and sustainable growth in the creative sector. The Content Project Market represents a significant opportunity for Thai creators to gain critical exposure and funding, marking a pivotal step in the ongoing evolution of Thailand’s creative landscape.
