The Cincinnati Reds have placed rookie right-hander Chase Burns on the 15-day injured list due to an elbow issue. The team announced that the move is retroactive to Tuesday, following a diagnosis of a Grade 1 right flexor strain.

Burns, 22, has struggled this season with a record of 0-3 and a 5.24 ERA across eight starts since making his major league debut on June 24, 2024. Despite his winless record, he has shown promise, striking out ten batters in four of his last five appearances, bringing his season total to 57 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings pitched.

The Reds selected Burns with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft from Wake Forest University, making him one of the most highly anticipated players in the franchise. The organization is hopeful that his time on the injured list will allow him to recover fully and return to form.

In a corresponding move, the Reds have recalled left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa, 27, from Triple-A Louisville. La Sorsa’s experience will likely bolster the bullpen as the team navigates Burns’ absence.

The Reds currently sit in a competitive position within their division, and the loss of a rookie with potential could pose challenges as they aim to maintain momentum through the remainder of the season. The organization will closely monitor Burns’ recovery, with updates expected as he progresses through rehabilitation.
